The Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company "Spanish Bar!"

Gee, I just loved the A&P "Spanish Bar" cake. I surely hope they revive that item as they seek to revive their company. Perhaps this fabulous cake with spices and raisins could bring them luck once more. My Mom grew up on "Spanish Bar" and "Dromedary Date Nut Bread." Both cakes had no eggs in the recipe and this suited her just fine as she rejected meat and eggs as a small child. I found a version of the cake in a different grocery store in the South the last few years but it only appeared as a "seasonal" item around Christmas time and one year they didn't even get it.

Oh, if only the the things we loved as children would be available to us all our lives!
